Hi all,
I’m Melanie, but you can call me Mel
The crazy unicorn behind The Nomadic Wife.
I’m a self-proclaimed locavore afflicted with wanderlust. I eat mostly plants, but sometimes bacon, fish, meat & cheese sneak themselves onto my plate and I devour them as well. But mostly plants.
I’m a Montreal native who now lives in Edmonton with my better half, Tom.
I’ve traveled around to many places like — China, Turkey, Singapore, New York, Hong Kong & sunny California — and it has greatly influenced my view of the world I live in, it’s people and it’s food. It has taught me to observe, slow down & make small shifts in my daily life in order to find peace. I’ve had the blessing to experience first-hand what it’s like to cook with mothers & grandmothers from many beautiful cultures. It has both elevated me and brought me to my knees.
“What I do is in homage to the women who have taught me so that I can now serve the ones who need me.”
As the Canadian Mutt that I am, and I say this lovingly, I am not quite sure where my roots & my people are. That’s okay with me. Instead, I’ve turned to the exploration of culture & food, taught to me by the women who have temporarily adopted me as one of their own, long enough to teach me their ways.
It’s with immeasurable respect & a heart wide open that I write these chronicles of my life through the tiny window that is my plate, my practice & my garden.
With love,
Mel xo
